Dump trailers feature open bins with a gate for unloading loose materials. They often are used to carry dirt, sand, road base, gravel and reground asphalt and can often carry more than a typical dump truck. There are three different varieties: end dump, bottom dump and side dump. End dump trailers are most common and typically have hydraulics to lift the front end of the trailer up so that the contents can empty out the rear. Bottom dump trailers have a gate on the underside to empty contents, while side dump trailers tip to the side to empty.
